Together We Can

Changing the Face of Traumatic Brain Injury

We are a UK network of researchers with areas of expertise across the spectrum of acquired traumatic brain injury (TBI). We comprise satellite areas of expertise to collectively complement our efforts to better predict, assess and treat mild TBI (mTBI). Our primary objective is to create a diverse and multidisciplinary network that can be used to generate new research proposals and collaborative studies. We sought to establish and consolidate core expertise and standing within the field to advance our collective understanding through a collaborative approach. The creation of this online space visually represents the formation of this network, defining who is participating and how we aim to move things forward.

Our Lab Certification

Our Main Service

Mymo is a wearable tech which measure’s a runners’ gait and uses AI to match their running style to a database of all the latest shoes on the market.

Our Facilities

The non-invasive RightEye system measures dynamic vision by recording, analyzing, and reporting eye movements to support, and aid in, the identification of visual tracking impairment.

Our Location

54 Helland Bridge, Hardwick, United Kingdom

iTremor from Head Diagnostics is a handheld medical device for the evaluation of brain injury and disease. The device is unique in targeting a little-known physiological window into brain activity via the eye. Head diagnostic’s mission is to eventually release the power of this biomarker into routine clinical use.

“Artinis makes optical imaging and oxygenation measurements by means of near infrared spectroscopy easy and affordable with fit to purpose solutions, easy upgrades and highly flexible, sensitive and portable systems.”

Danu sports are working with elite sports professionals & medical experts to develop a revolutionary pair of Smart Socks that acts as a force plate on your feet. Providing scientifically validated gait analysis in any environment, at any time.

Our Expertise

Shield-X Technology Inc. is working hard to put new technologies in the hands of athletes. We are focused on working with existing manufacturers of athletic equipment and apparel to bring our technology and future technologies to consumers. At this time, Shield-X does not sell products directly to consumers.

Pathologycam Testing

A worldwide leading manufacturer of hard- and software solutions for neurophysiological research, e.g. EEG, EEG-fMRI, ERP, BCI, EEG-TMS, as well as sleep, behavioral sciences and similar disciplines.

Mineral Assay

Brain Products was founded in 1997 and has more than 60 employees and a global network of distributors in 44 countries, including subsidiaries in Canada, Italy, Singapore, UK and USA.

Pharmaceutical Research

Now, allied health professionals are using Senaptec products to address various maladies, including concussion management. Sensory tools include Sensory Station, Quad Strobe Eyewear and the Senaptec App.

Unmatched Expertise

Construct and validate a simple and time efficient neck strength assessment protocol using a portable dynamometer.

Precise Result

Examine the acute effects of competitive Rugby Union match play on neck strength parameters.

Qualified Staff

Use the validated protocol to conduct longitudinal monitoring of neck strength parameters and incidences of head and cervical spine injuries.

High Quality Lab

This work seeks to contribute to improving player welfare via a greater understanding of the importance of neck strength in concussion risk in Rugby Union.

Our Network

Rugby Union players are exposed to situations which present noteworthy risks of concussive incidents (Kemp et al. 2008; McIntosh et al. 2010; Fuller et al. 2015). There is evidence that an individual’s neck strength may influence their susceptibility to suffering a concussion whilst engaging in contact sports (Collin et al. 2014).

What People Say About Us

PhD candidate Katherine Hunzinger tells us about how she got into concussion research and her current project:

Katherine Hunzinger

“I am a third year Biomechanics and Movement Sciences doctoral student, co-advised by Dr. Buckley and Dr. Buz Swanik, PhD, ATC. I completed my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology at Northern Illinois University where I was a member of the Women’s Rugby team which has spurred my current interests in rugby and concussions.”

“My colleagues and I recently published a new paper: Ageing bone fractures: The case of a ductile to brittle transition that shifts with age”

MARIA EVE

“Our aim within this study was threefold: first to explore whether there is a ductile-to-brittle transition (DBT) in human bone and observe the likely transit.”

LIAM BOWER

“The SCORES project is an independent research study that is designed to understand the cognitive health of former professional football players as they age. It is known that former professional footballers are at greater risk of neurodegeneration, but there is a need to better understand this risk.”

NICKY

Expert Team

At present there is no objective or ‘gold standard’ method of diagnosing or monitoring recovery from sports-related concussion (SRC). Wearables may provide a practical method to objectively assess patients balance and gait deficits in both clinic and in free-living (habitual) environments.
